Woman in Britain crushed to death by bed (4 photos)
A woman from County Durham, UK, has died in an accident. Helen Davey, 39, was trapped between her mattress and bed frame. Her lifeless body was discovered by her daughter.
When the woman lifted the mattress, the lifting mechanism failed and the structure collapsed. Davey was crushed and was unable to escape.
The investigation confirmed that the death was caused by a faulty gas spring.
Durham and Darlington Senior Coroner Jeremy Chipperfield said: "The woman was leaning over a storage box under her mattress when the platform suddenly came down and pinned her neck to the base of the bed. Unable to escape, she died of positional asphyxia."
Chipperfield has notified the Product Safety and Standards Authority of the incident, saying: "Action must be taken to ensure no further victims are killed."
Helen was a beauty business owner and is survived by two children, 19-year-old Elizabeth and 11-year-old George.
"I can't comprehend what has happened. You have been George and I's best friend since day one. I wish you were here with us, supporting us in everything, like you did before. I hope you know how much I love you and that I would do anything for one more hug. Until next time, my angel," the daughter of the deceased wrote on social media.
