Every evening she ate 10 bars of chocolate: the woman lost 120 kilograms (6 photos)
Martha McCarthy tried various diets, but nothing worked. When it became too difficult for her to go to the shops, she decided to change things.
Martha McCarthy, 32, from Ireland, gained up to 190 kilograms due to her habit of overeating alone and was only able to lose the weight thanks to surgery.
A woman who ate 10 chocolate bars a day lost 120 kilograms. According to her, she would risk going under the knife again, despite the loss of her gallbladder.
Martha McCarthy began gaining weight in her 20s after taking her first job at a hotel. She would often skip breakfast, have a sandwich for lunch, and eat fast food for dinner. However, she admits that she gained most of her weight from overeating when alone. At work, McCarthy would often ask to go to the bathroom so she could eat sausages from the hotel buffet. She would also drink up to seven cans of Diet Coke and eat up to 10 chocolate bars every night when she was alone in her room.
After gaining weight, she was forced to order specially made clothes to fit her size. After a five-minute walk to the store left her "crying in agony", she decided it was time to make a change.
Marta did her research, found a weight loss clinic in Estonia and paid almost £5,200 for flights, hotels and surgery. The procedure was a success and she lost a whopping 120 kilograms.
Unfortunately, she suffered health complications following the surgery, including bowel problems and gallstones. Despite numerous trips to St Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin and having her gallbladder removed, Martha would do the surgery again "in a heartbeat."
"The surgery was done correctly - I just had a bad reaction to it. But I would do it 100 more times, no questions asked. I would rather have those health problems than the ones I had because of my weight. I feel so much better - it's changed my life," she said.
She is now saving up for surgery to remove the excess skin.
