“The most beautiful scientist in the world” contracted a deadly infection (4 photos)
Scientific sex symbol Rosie Moore is a biologist, invasive reptile researcher, avid traveler, and social media star. Rosie recently shared her misfortune with subscribers. She claims she has contracted a severe viral infection and there is “little that can be done about it.”
Rosie said she had dengue fever. She first noticed symptoms of the disease when her eye began to hurt painfully. This happened after she visited South America, where she was “bitten by a bunch of bugs.”
Dengue fever, an infectious viral disease, is transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes.
Rosie said she became infected in May. After her eye began to cause her pain, the situation quickly worsened - the woman "had difficulty getting out of bed and tried to cool herself by any means" while fighting a severe fever.
According to her, she had to “swallow paracetamol like crazy,” and her body was covered with an aggressive red rash. Rosie says she "didn't want to make a mountain out of a mountain" before she was diagnosed, as she was planning to return home to the US soon. But then she woke up with “a crazy rash all over her body.” And by this moment the test results arrived, proving that it was dengue fever and doctors could do little.
“There is no specific treatment for dengue and although the disease can be fatal, in most cases it is less severe,” Rosie explained. — Before I was diagnosed, I had many symptoms: loss of appetite (we hiked 5-12 miles a day and I couldn't eat a single bite of food for days), eye pain, chills and fever".
“I was hesitant to share this because I think a lot of people are afraid to travel to distant places, but it was worth the trip and I encourage everyone to travel to remote parts of the world,” she added.
According to the World Health Organization, 100–400 million dengue infections occur annually. In 2023, 7,300 deaths from the disease were reported.
