In Brazil, a famous politician died after being attacked by hundreds of bees
Francisco Eudes Alves Gomes, 70, was injured on his avocado farm on January 9. The politician, a well-known figure in his region, was using a tractor to prepare land for new plantings. While working, he accidentally hit a tree with a beehive on it.
The bee attack was captured on video by his companion. The footage shows Gomes getting out of the car and inspecting the area, repeatedly brushing off the bees that landed on him and stinging him.
Shortly after, Gomes went into anaphylactic shock. He was rushed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to help him. As Need To Know notes, large amounts of bee venom can cause anaphylaxis even in people without obvious allergies.
Francisco Gomes served as a four-term councilor in Tiangua and was well-respected by locals. He last served on the council from 2013 to 2016.
