The mayoral candidate of the Italian city of Pescara, Michele Calvani, cut his hand in public to swear on his “blood” that he would fulfill all his election promises.

The man shocked voters who came to the rally with a bloody scene: he suddenly rolled up his sleeves, took out a knife and cut his hand, declaring that in this way he was concluding a “bloody pact”, according to which he vowed to fulfill all his promises.

After a flood of complaints, the leadership of Calvani's party demanded that he withdraw his candidacy.
