At least 14 people were killed and more than 30 were injured when a canopy collapsed at a train station in the Serbian city of Novi Sad. The tragic moment was captured on video.
The incident occurred on November 1 at about midday. The concrete canopy at the train station fell on benches where people were sitting at the time.
President of the country Aleksandar Vucic reported:
"According to the latest information, 14 people died, of which five we have not yet been able to identify. Eight people are citizens of Serbia, one is from North Macedonia"

About 80 rescuers were involved in clearing the rubble, excavators and trucks were used.

In 2021, the station was closed for reconstruction. In July 2024, the work was completed, after which the station reopened.

Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic said:
"This is a black Friday for us, for all of Serbia. The station was built in 1964, and it was recently renovated."
