A drunk man broke an icon in a church
In Zelenograd, a man who had lost faith in God broke into the temple and broke an icon. The 37-year-old attacker was intoxicated.
A previously convicted native of Udmurtia was detained in Zelenograd on suspicion of hooliganism. He burst into the Church of the Archangel Michael, threatened to burn it down, and then smashed the frame of the icon with his fist, the Moscow Department of the Russian Guard reported.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of April 8 on Panfilov Street. The priest called in the police after a drunken 37-year-old man started a scandal in the church and began threatening violence against everyone who reprimanded him. Then the rowdy promised to burn down the house of God, and in the end hit the icon of the Inexhaustible Chalice with his fist.
“They detained me for hooliganism and broke an icon. Because I stopped believing in God,” the detainee said during an interview.
The police are currently investigating, and the amount of damage remains to be determined.
