Almost everyone on the ride was injured.
A ride with people on board collapsed at the Surajkhand Fair in the suburbs of Delhi, India. At the time of the collapse, 15 people were on board, 13 of whom suffered injuries of varying severity. Another person died.
The person was reportedly a police officer on duty at the fair. He was not on the ride, but attempted to rescue people after the accident. The ride first broke loose from one lever, and when people rushed to rescue the injured, the second lever also gave way. Faridabad District Commissioner Ayusha Sinhi reported that when the ride fell, part of it struck Inspector Jagdish Prasad of the Palwal police in the face and head. He died instantly.
Haryani Chief Minister Nayab Saini expressed condolences to the family of the deceased police inspector, stating that the relevant authorities have been instructed to ensure proper care for the injured.
"I am deeply saddened by the incident at the Surajkund fair in Faridabad. I express my sincere condolences to the family of the person who died in this incident. The relevant authorities have been instructed to ensure proper and immediate treatment of the injured." The Haryana government is fully committed to providing all possible assistance to the victims and their families," he wrote.
Meanwhile, police have filed a criminal case against the ride operator.
