In North Carolina, an 18-year-old woman was arrested for assaulting a police officer. She threw a drink at his head during a protest against mass deportations.
Emily Cervantes Ramos found herself at the center of a controversy after throwing a large glass of drink at an officer. The incident occurred around noon on November 21st near a high school, when 75 students, including Ramos, walked out of class to protest mass deportations.
Schoolchildren staged a demonstration in downtown Kannapolis, about 30 minutes from Charlotte.
In the video, an angry crowd has gathered around the police officer, but he remains calm.
"You're not even an officer, you're a piece of crap!" the girl yells at him.
Insults are heard being directed at the man when Ramos suddenly appears and throws a drink at him.
The officer immediately rushes after the woman, grabs her, and handcuffs her.
Meanwhile, a guy off-camera yells, "This is what you got, you fucking idiot! She didn't even do anything."
The officer led Ramos away amidst the shouts of protesters.
The schoolgirl was charged with assaulting a police officer and two counts of resisting authorities. She was soon released.
Following her arrest, a GoFundMe page was created to support her family, who "found themselves in a difficult situation." Ramos's friends claimed that "the officer aggressively snatched the megaphone from the girl and pushed her to the ground." The page was later removed.
"We respect citizens' rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. But when someone's actions exceed the law, we have no choice but to take appropriate action to protect the people and property of our city," said Kannapolis Police Chief Kerry Spry.
Last week, more than 250 undocumented immigrants were arrested in Charlotte, and 30,000 students stayed home from school due to the presence of Border Patrol.
The Department of Homeland Security stated that illegal immigrants entered North Carolina knowing that local politicians would protect them and allow them to roam freely on American streets.
The Trump administration also intends to deploy Border Patrol agents and armored vehicles to Louisiana.
