In Iran, a naked woman jumped on a police car in protest (7 photos + 1 video)
An Iranian woman has stripped naked in public to protest tougher penalties for women. Footage released from Mashhad, the Islamic Republic's second-largest city, shows the rebel standing on the hood of a police car and shouting at armed officers.
The woman then sits on the car's windshield and spreads her legs. The video was released by Iranian journalist and activist Masih Alinejad.
According to Euronews, the police officer refused to touch the woman and was unable to arrest her because she was naked. The Iranian woman's husband told local media that she was receiving assistance.
Details of the incident are still unknown, but according to internet users, the woman was protesting against stricter clothing rules.
In December, Iran's parliament approved the Chastity and Hijab Bill, which would impose harsher penalties and fines on women and girls who expose their hair, arms and legs. Activists and human rights groups, including Amnesty International, have accused Iran of "seeking to deepen an already harsh system of repression."
Under the new law, violators will face heavy fines and up to 15 years in prison.
In November, a female student stripped down to her underwear on the grounds of Islamic Azad University in Tehran. Security guards soon forced her into a car and drove her away. As it became known, the day before the girl was harassed by members of the Basij paramilitary group for wearing the hijab incorrectly. They tore off her clothes and beat her.
In the fall of 2022, the country was engulfed in mass protests when 22-year-old Mahsi Amini, detained for wearing the hijab incorrectly, died in police custody. According to Iranian human rights organizations, security forces killed more than 550 people and arrested thousands more during the clashes.
