In Ceuta, police used rubber bullets against migrants
On Playa del Tarajal beach, located near the border with Morocco, footage captured the moment a group of migrants was pursued by officers of the Spanish Civil Guard and National Police. The footage shows people trying to flee along the coastline, while one of the officers presumably uses rubber bullets to stop those running away. Some of the migrants try to take refuge in the sea, while others run along the beach.
The video appeared online a few days ago and quickly gained hundreds of thousands of views. It has once again drawn attention to the situation in Ceuta, where, according to Spanish authorities, several thousand migrants remain. Meanwhile, some eyewitnesses and bloggers claim that their number could be significantly higher.
In recent weeks, Ceuta has regularly been in the spotlight due to the migration crisis. Spanish authorities continue to tighten security measures in an attempt to deter new illegal border-crossing attempts and stabilize the situation in the enclave.
