A Filipino tourist who was hit by a train in Taiwan is set to be fined for trespassing on a train track. The fine for such a violation could be up to $3,000.
According to CCTV footage from a local store, the woman gave her phone to another person to take a photo of her. She walked onto the tracks and spread her arms to get a shot with an oncoming train in the background, but was hit by the vehicle.
The Railway Police Bureau said the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries to her head, chest and pelvis, but remained conscious and responsive after the crash. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene and then took her to the hospital.

Taiwan News reports that Taiwan Railways train #4831 hit Michelle, a 36-year-old Filipino tourist, on her outstretched arms, causing her to fall, suffering head, chest and pelvic injuries.

The Filipina has already been questioned by Taiwanese police on suspicion of violating Article 57 of the Railway Act, which prohibits entry into restricted areas, which include railway tracks, bridges, tunnels, etc.

If the tourist is found to have violated railway safety regulations, she could be fined between NT$50,000 and NT$100,000, or about US$1,530 to US$3,060. Serious injuries will result in fines increasing to NT$300,000, or about US$9,182. In cases involving death, fines will increase to NT$500,000, or about US$15,300 equivalent.
