The politician was taken to the hospital by helicopter. 
The Slovak cabinet minister held a visiting meeting. After its completion, Prime Minister Robert Fico came out to talk with citizens. Then an unknown person jumped out of the crowd and shot at the politician several times.
Local media write that the politician was wounded in the stomach and chest. There is also talk of a head wound, but this has not yet been confirmed. Now he is in the hospital, doctors assess Fico’s condition as serious. Here is what journalists who were there at the time of the assassination report:
We do not know how many injuries Prime Minister Robert Fico received. Our editors met when he had just left the House of Culture. We said hello, and within 40 seconds we heard 4-5 strong shots, and after about 20 seconds we learned that the Prime Minister was wounded.
Immediately after the assassination attempt, the shooter tried to hide in the crowd and escape. But he was quickly subdued by security. The man's motives are still unknown.

According to preliminary data, the man who attacked Fico is 71-year-old writer Juraj Cintula. He is a supporter of the liberal Progressive Slovakia party. Tsintula openly expressed his hatred of the coalition of Slovakian ruling parties on social networks. Fico also criticized.
