Time bomb: a family bought a “poisonous” apartment that kills its owners (2 photos)
The formaldehyde limit was exceeded in almost all interior items, sometimes by 60 times.
A family from Singapore bought a “toxic” apartment of almost 150 square meters, which is slowly killing all its owners, like a time bomb. AsiaOne writes about this.
When Songhong Jun moved into a new home with his family, he immediately hired a company that was supposed to completely renovate and furnish the premises. After the move, 52-year-old Jun's eight-year-old daughter complained of a sore throat and dry eyes. Soon the same symptoms appeared in his wife: the woman lost her voice for two weeks, and the doctor suggested that the cause of the disease could be the fumes of formaldehyde contained in paint, adhesives and composite wood.
According to doctors, high levels of formaldehyde can cause irritation to the lungs, throat, skin and eyes, and long-term exposure to the substance on the human body can even lead to cancer.
A specialist was invited to the apartment to conduct chemical tests. It turned out that the norm for formaldehyde content was exceeded in almost all interior items, in some by as much as 60 times.
The procedure to eliminate formaldehyde did not help solve the problem, so the family was asked to temporarily leave the apartment. However, they were not satisfied with the proposed amount of compensation and temporary housing.
This year in June, Jun removed all the furniture from the apartment and sent a message to the company that was involved in the sale of real estate about his intention to go to court. After this, he was offered monetary compensation and additional cleaning of the apartment, but the man called the amount inadequate for the damage caused.
