An American woman kept her adopted daughter in a dog pen (3 photos + 1 video)
A Texas man heard pitiful cries coming from a dog pen and couldn't believe his eyes. It turned out that neighbors were keeping their 22-year-old foster daughter, who has disabilities, outside.
24-year-old Justin Anderson was walking past his neighbor's property when he heard strange sounds and pulled out his phone to record what was happening. He saw a girl in a cage frantically knocking on the door, begging for help.
Anderson immediately reported the incident to the police, sending them the video footage. Law enforcement believes he saved the girl's life, as she was wearing only a T-shirt and sweatpants on a cold night.
Shortly after, the 60-year-old foster mother, Candace Thompson, was arrested on charges of child abuse. Thompson, the wife of former police chief Anson, has raised dozens of orphans over the years.
Anderson himself warned of the need to be vigilant and keep an eye on people, even if they seem like angels in the flesh.
"Be on guard," he said. "If you notice anything strange, report it immediately. Be careful, because events like these help you realize how much evil there is in the world. We need kind and compassionate people. If this girl really had problems and Candace couldn't handle them, she should have sought help. Instead, she locked her in a cage."
He added: "Never, ever trust anyone 100 percent, because, like in this case, you never know who your neighbor is. Some people have hidden dark sides."
Anson Police Chief Daniel Graziose confirmed that the captive was treated for "minor injuries." After a brief hospital visit, she was released to a relative. She is now "well and healthy," but the investigation into Thompson, who adopted the girl at age two, continues.
