In India, a man swallowed a live chicken to cure infertility (2 photos)
A man and his wife had been married for many years without children and turned to a healer in despair to have a child.
Anand Yadav, 35, from Chhindkalo village in Ambikapur district of Chhattisgarh resorted to an unconventional method of infertility treatment and, on the advice of a healer, swallowed a live chicken. The bird got stuck in the man's airway. He was found in a semi-conscious state in the bathroom, having suffocated and lost consciousness. The victim was rushed to the hospital, but despite all the efforts of doctors, he died.
At first, doctors could not determine the cause of the man's death, but after an autopsy, pathologists found a 20 cm chicken.
Dr. Santu Bagh, who performed the autopsy, suggested that the chicken blocked the airway and esophagus, causing suffocation. Surprisingly, the bird in the patient's body was alive for the first minutes after the autopsy, but soon died.
"In all my years of work, I have performed more than 15,000 autopsies, this is the first time I have come across such a case. This case shocked us all," said Dr. Bagh.
The police are investigating the case, looking for the alleged healer on whose advice the Indian man swallowed the chicken, and the man's family has not yet commented.
