British man tramples seagull and goes to jail (2 photos + 1 video)
A cruel animal abuser walked free after CCTV footage captured him punching and trampling a seagull. 31-year-old Anthony Nurse stepped on the bird three times, resulting in its death.
A Liverpool man was sentenced to six weeks in prison for reasons. On November 19, Nurse appeared in his absentia at Preston Magistrates' Court. He pleaded guilty to violating the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
The video was initially distributed by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) with a plea to identify the perpetrator.
The perpetrator was quickly identified, but he denied any involvement.
RSPCA Inspector Daniel Tomlinson said: "It was heartbreaking to see the footage of what happened to this poor seagull. We are truly grateful to the person who reported it and helped us with the investigation."
"Seagulls are among the most vulnerable wild birds. The RSPCA receives reports of cruelty to them every three days. It is important to understand that these unique birds deserve our compassion and respect. Some species are endangered, and this is a serious concern. We will continue to protect all animals, including those that are rarely appreciated."
