Rat Bites Bedridden Pensioner's Finger (4 photos)

In the British city of Southampton, a rat bit off the toe of a bedridden pensioner. Shortly before the incident, the victim's daughter had contacted the local council with a complaint about rodents, but she was presented with a bill of 297 pounds sterling.

The daughter of 88-year-old pensioner Andrea Scott was shocked when her elderly mother was asked to pay an exorbitant amount for deratization.

The woman paid for the service, but the administration was in no hurry to send specialists.

Meanwhile, Andrea set up rat traps and poisoned the house, hoping to catch the pests. But all efforts were unsuccessful. On May 20, the woman received a call from her mother's caregivers, who discovered that a rat had bitten off the top of the old woman's finger. It is worth noting that the pensioner suffers from diabetes.

56-year-old Scott says caregivers screamed when they saw blood on the bed. The whole family is still in shock.

"I was shocked. It's been a week, but our family is still in shock," she shared.

"My mom has diabetes, so she can't feel her legs. Luckily, she wasn't in pain. Now she's in the hospital and she keeps saying, 'I can't believe this happened.'"

'The council decided not to help an elderly woman and look what happened.'

Scott continued: 'Why should tenants have to pay to get rid of rats? It has been so traumatic for my mum and the rest of our family that I will never let her go back to this house.'

Neighbours of the victim have also complained about the rats.

A Southampton City Council spokesman said: 'We take all reports of pests seriously. We ask residents to report them on our website. This will help our team to quickly assess the situation and work together to find a solution. On Tuesday 27th May we received a report of a rat infestation and possible electrical issues. The council decided to urgently call in a team of exterminators and electricians to deal with the situation. We will continue to work with the family to ensure safety."
