In the US, a nurse was doing personal hygiene at a patient’s bedside: the hospital responded harshly

In the US state of Iowa, a nurse was fired after a video of her flossing her teeth while caring for a patient surfaced online.

The video, taken at Ottumwa Regional Health Center and posted to Facebook*, showed the nurse flossing her teeth while standing over patient Cole “Tiny” Cross. Cross, who was undergoing treatment for a congenital heart defect, raised his hand several times to try to get her attention, but the nurse ignored him.

The video, posted by the patient’s friend Joe Bainbridge, quickly went viral and caused an uproar.

After management learned of the video, the nurse was first suspended and then fired.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy for behavior that is not consistent with our core values. “As soon as we became aware of this unacceptable behavior last week, we responded immediately by suspending and then terminating the employee,” Ottumwa Regional Health Center said in a statement.
