Passengers started a fight on board a British plane: it was forced to change direction
A flight from Antalya to Manchester on February 12 was ultimately forced to completely change its plans and destination, making an emergency landing in Belgium.
"Yesterday, flight LS896 from Antalya to Manchester was diverted to Brussels due to the appalling behavior of two passengers who were disruptive," the airline noted.
One witness, a passenger on the same flight, admitted that the trip had become one of the worst memories of his life.
As it turned out, the dispute began when an intoxicated passenger began shouting racist slogans. At first, the other passengers ignored him, but he showed no signs of stopping.
Things worsened when the noisy man "failed to obtain cigarettes" and then became aggressive. Flight attendants tried to calm him down, but to no avail. Eventually, a violent fight broke out between him and another passenger.
"Passengers were worried. People were scared. The atmosphere became chaotic," a witness recalled of the incident.
While the two men struggled in the aisle, others around them swore and shouted, begging others not to intervene.
It all ended when the unruly passengers were eventually disembarked in Brussels and handed over to the police. In exchange, the airline added the men to a list of those "banned for life" from flying on its flights.
"We can confirm that the two passengers who violated the rules will be banned from flying with us for life. We will also vigorously pursue reimbursement of the costs we incurred as a result of this diversion," a Jet2 spokesperson stated.
It's worth noting that the airline positions itself as a family-oriented airline, so such behavior is considered unacceptable.
