A 20-year-old British man has died during an adrenaline-fuelled hike in Malaga, Spain. The Caminito del Rey is widely considered one of the most dangerous in the world.
The tragedy occurred at around 11am on Wednesday. The man was walking a section of via ferrata (a route laid along a fixed steel cable) near Puente del Mono, or Monkey Bridge, when he fell. His friends called emergency services. The Civil Guard sent a helicopter to the scene, but by the time they arrived the man had died.
The Caminito del Rey trail attracts extreme sports enthusiasts from all over the world. It is located between the Chorro and Gaitanejo waterfalls in the El Chorro gorge in Malaga. The length is 3 kilometers, the width is 1 meter.
The path was originally laid for workers of the local hydroelectric power station in 1905, and after repairs in 2015, it officially became a tourist route.
