A man almost killed a supermarket manager with a shovel because of working conditions (2 photos + 1 video)
At first, the man wanted to "deal" with the manager without using foreign objects, but he thought he was too big and took a shovel.
Danielson Paiva swung the shovel like a baseball bat and hit manager Claudio Suarez dos Santos in the back of the head. The manager lost consciousness and fell to the floor. He quickly came to, but was left lying on his back in pain when his colleagues tied Paiva up. The man was taken away by security.
Paiva was later arrested.
"The suspect was questioned and stated that he went there to confront the man, but thought he was too big. It was a cowardly act. He got scared and struck what could have been a fatal blow when the victim's back was turned," said Police Chief Sergio Ribeiro.
Paiva said his wife, who works at a supermarket, had complained about the demands of the job and being denied days off. This, he told police, prompted him to confront her boss.
Dos Santos has since been released from hospital and is recovering at home. He recalled passing out after the blow and described how his phone saved his life.
"I never thought something like this would happen. I didn't leave the hospital until Sunday. He really tried to kill me, but my phone saved me. It smashed on my ear and I had to get stitches. But the phone protected me from the full force of the blow," the manager said.
The attacker has now been charged with attempted murder and is in custody.
