Bear lover was eaten alive by a grizzly bear on camera (7 photos + 1 video)
A bear lover who believed he had developed a special bond with a group of grizzlies ended up filming the moment they ate him alive.
Timothy Treadwell was born in New York state in 1957, the fifth child in his family. From early childhood he was very fond of animals, and even kept a squirrel named Willie at home. Everything was going well: school, friends. Timothy became the star of the local scuba diving team. Life passed easily and naturally.
But everything changed after the guy went to college. What came over him then, his parents still don’t understand. In college, Timothy said that he was an orphan from Britain, and he was born, according to him, for some reason in Australia. The parents explained this by the fact that their son at that time began to use illegal substances, and was also excessively addicted to alcohol.
Wild animals “helped” get rid of bad habits
Gradually, it began to dawn on the guy that with this lifestyle he would simply destroy himself and decided to give up bad habits.
In addition, he had a breakup with his girlfriend. This was the catalyst for his decision to closely connect his life with the study of animals. And not just any kind, but grizzly bears!
So, in 1989, he first went to the state of Alaska, to one of the national parks (Katmai) in order to observe wild bears in their natural habitat. While there, Timothy realized that bears were his life. In one of his books, he wrote that it was these ferocious predators that inspired him to give up all bad habits.
Timothy became one of America's most famous naturalists
In total, Timothy spent 13 years in this national park, visiting during the summer months. He has written several books on grizzly bears and taken countless photographs and videos. In addition, he created an association to protect these animals, called the Grizzly People. Timothy visited many schools with his lectures, which were attended by several thousand children of all ages. He explained to people the habits of grizzlies, and also talked about their lifestyle and behavior in the wild.
In his videos, Timothy calmly observed wild predators, approached them, and even stroked them, which, according to some people, was very reckless. Moreover, Treadwell played with the cubs in front of their mother, which could have had very serious consequences, because the grizzly bear is one of the top ten animals in terms of bite force.
Such strange methods did not always find a positive response in the hearts, and most importantly, in the minds of people. Scientists, as well as caretakers of the national park, have more than once clashed with what they considered to be a crazy naturalist. Several times it got to the point where Timati was simply banned from appearing in the park. But the guy did not give up, and continued to come again and again for regular filming and observations.
Stubbornness bordering on madness
In 2003, Timothy and his friend and colleague Amy Huguenard again went to Alaska. They wanted to visit a place called the Big Green, a grassy region that bears loved. Timothy himself called this place “The Grizzly Labyrinth.”
Timothy Treadwell, loved to go salmon hunting with bears
It is worth noting that this was the end of the summer season, when bears begin to eat heavily in order to gain fat for hibernation. At the same time, they become more aggressive, which the park rangers warned the environmental activist about. But this did not stop Timothy, and he stayed overnight in a tent, in the territory of ferocious predators.
The tragedy was a foregone conclusion
On the evening of October 5, Timothy called a colleague on a satellite phone. This was his last call. A day later, when the plane came for him, he did not go to the meeting. The pilot called the rangers, and they discovered that Timothy and his colleague Amy had died from the claws and teeth of a grizzly bear.
We will not describe the details here, but the fact remains: Timothy devoted his entire life to studying wild animals, and he paid for it. Evil tongues began to say that he himself was to blame, and that he should not have neglected the safety rules. Predators are predators, this is once again proven by the incident that occurred in the Berberov family in Baku.
On the other hand, who else could take such unique footage for ordinary people. In 2005, director Werner Herzog made a documentary about Timothy, his life and work, which he called “Grizzly Man.”
