Woman poisons ex-lover's family with Easter egg (2 photos)
A woman has been arrested in Brazil for poisoning her ex-lover's family with an Easter chocolate egg.
Seven-year-old Luis Fernando was taken to a hospital in Imperatriz, Maranhão, on April 17. The boy felt ill after eating a chocolate treat sent to his family. The boy could not be saved. Luis' mother, Mirian Lira, and his 13-year-old sister developed similar symptoms while they were in the hospital with him.
Both are in serious condition.
It soon became clear that the family had received a large chocolate egg with the inscription "For Mirian Lyra, with love. Happy Easter." After some time, Lyra received a call from an unknown person asking if the treat had been delivered. The woman said that she had received the package and asked who it was from. The unknown person replied: "You'll soon guess."
Later, the police detained a 35-year-old woman on an intercity bus. She turned out to be the former lover of the man with whom Lyra lived. Two wigs and the remains of some medicine, which, it is believed, she poisoned the family with, were confiscated from the detainee. The criminal used wigs to remain unrecognized while buying a chocolate egg and a poisonous substance.
