The young man shot his victim right on the street. And he printed the gun and silencer on a 3D printer.
Last week, America was shaken by a high-profile murder. In New York, a killer sent 50-year-old Brian Thompson, the head of the country's largest medical insurance company UnitedHealthcare, to the next world.
The killer lay in wait for Thompson near the hotel, then followed him and fired several bullets at the victim from a pistol with a silencer. After each shot, the barrel jammed and the killer pulled the bolt. Then he calmly got on his bike and left the scene of the crime.
The case turned out to be loud and people started talking about how someone got what they deserved. They scolded the insurers and said that they do everything just to avoid paying for the treatment of patients. Others called the killer "a hero taking revenge on the entire health insurance system."
In short, he caused a stir. Almost like the Joker from the famous movie.
They searched for him for several days and finally found him - 26-year-old Luigi Mangione.
The guy is from a family of Sicilian immigrants, in the US they were involved in real estate. And maybe not only that, given his Sicilian roots. But the young man himself was not connected with any crime and graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania with bachelor's and master's degrees in computer and information science. Then he worked as an IT specialist and did not bother anyone.
And the motive for the murder was allegedly that when his grandparents got sick, the insurers started to be clever and delay paying for their treatment. As a result, the relatives died, and the young man allegedly began to hate the swindlers-insurers.
When Luigi was caught, they found a manifesto in his backpack criticizing capitalism and the corporate world of America.
These parasites asked for it, - wrote Mangione.
Also in the backpack was a pistol with a silencer - presumably the guy printed it on a 3D printer.
The killer faces 15 years behind bars up to life. And other insurance companies in the US got seriously scared and hid information about their management from public access. You never know, maybe some other Luigi will show up and send them a bill. Only this time it will be his own, Sicilian one.
