Ramazan Yilmaz, 40, went to a private dental clinic in Bursa with a toothache. The dentist who examined him said that several loose teeth needed to be removed and implants installed in their place.
But during the operation, the dentist, trying to insert one of the implants into place, pierced the patient's jawbone.
“Experiencing discomfort with my teeth, I went to a private dental clinic in Nilüfer,” said the victim. — After the examination, I was informed that I have a fragile bone structure, my teeth are loose, and it is recommended that I undergo an implantation procedure. The doctor claimed to have 24 years of experience in this field and assured us of his competence. That’s why we entrusted him with this procedure.”
“Later, when I was extracting teeth and performing an implant procedure that same day, he informed his secretary that the device he was using was faulty. Then he started doing the procedure manually.”
“When he tried to install the screw, I noticed that he was using excessive force. I pointed this out to him, mentioning that I heard a sound like bone cracking. However, he assured me that this was normal.
But when he continued to press on the screw, it pierced my jawbone and entered the area behind my eye where the brain and cerebrospinal fluid are."
“When I screamed in pain, he finally took an x-ray. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, he took me to the emergency room of Uludag University Hospital and left.
After examination on a tomograph, it turned out that the screw had penetrated into the area where the brain and cerebrospinal fluid are located. After this, expert doctors met and decided to carry out the operation.”
The operation lasted several hours, but surgeons managed to remove the screw from the patient's brain. He was discharged after a few days and is now recovering.
According to Yilmaz, the dentist who made the mistake (only his initials are known - A.D.) refused to return his money. Therefore, the man goes to court.
“Before the operation, I was warned that I could die,” he said. — I said goodbye to my children. Luckily, I got through the surgery safely.”
A.D. claims the incident occurred "due to a medical complication."
