The woman who pepper-sprayed an Uber driver in New York will not face prison time (1 photo + 1 video)
During a Manhattan ride last year, an incident occurred: passenger Jennifer Guilbeau pepper-sprayed an Uber driver in the face. According to police, the driver, Shohel Mahmood, stopped at a traffic light and began quietly praying in Arabic, after which the woman jumped out of the backseat, yelled insults, and then fired gas.
Video of the incident quickly went viral. Jennifer Guilbeau was charged with a hate crime for allegedly using racist language during the attack, but the charge was later dropped.
After months of litigation, Guilbeault reached a plea agreement with prosecutors: she pleaded guilty to felony harassment. As part of the deal, she was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service, participate in an anti-racism program, and undergo therapy.
If all conditions are met, the charge could be reduced to a lesser offense. The driver stated that he forgave his attacker, although video footage of the incident remains a reminder that similar situations can happen even during a routine Uber ride in New York City.
