This year, in the south of Belarus, midges are more active than ever: the number of videos on TikTok with small bloodsuckers makes it impossible to lie. But the footage shown by a user named Natalya stunned even Gomel residents who were accustomed to midges.
The girl published three consecutive videos. In the first, she shows a room with “living carpets” of midges. The exclamations of surprise in the background make it clear that none of the participants was ready for such a turn. Commentators are also shocked: “Where are there so many of them?”, “Looks like the end of the world,” “6D Live Wallpaper,” “How did you get them?” Natalya clarifies that she just left the window without a screen for ventilation.
This was the last day for the army of insects in this room. “In the morning, a mass grave was waiting for me,” Natalya signed the next video and showed the cleaning process (for this she even had to wear a medical mask). “They crunch,” “they stink,” the Gomel resident shares her unexpected discoveries. Keep in mind if you still haven't installed mosquito nets on your windows.
It remains unclear where so many insects came from in one room? Even Gomel residents, who are accustomed to the invasion of midges at this time of year, ask questions. Local entomologists explain that midges are especially active this year due to prolonged spring floods and a large number of fast rivers in the region. At the same time, the suffering will not last long. May is the most active month for bloodsuckers. Already in the first ten days of June, their activity will begin to decline, since midges live for only a month.
After cleaning, Natalia ended up with a bucket full of midges. Particularly sarcastic users suggest not throwing away the valuable protein product and using it on cutlets.
