In Turkey, cruise organizers threw a foam party after a tourist's death (4 photos)
In July, 60-year-old British man Peter Colville traveled to Alanya with his family. Ten relatives, including his children and grandchildren, were also traveling with him. They bought tickets for a "luxury pirate ship," and the program included entertainment: DJs, swimming in the sea, and a foam party. There were approximately 600 people on board.
While swimming near Cleopatra Beach, Peter disappeared. Moments later, he was found unconscious in the water. He was pulled onto the deck and given CPR.
His daughter, 27-year-old Nakita Colville, said the ship's staff were indifferent and insensitive.
"We heard cries for help and saw my father face-up in the water. People were trying to pull him out. One of the guests started performing CPR, while the staff just stood there with their hands folded. My family was hysterical, and other guests were screaming and crying."
Nakita, a resident of Woking, Surrey, also said the bartender pronounced her father dead, after which the staff covered his body with a towel.
The Coast Guard took Colville to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The family was disembarked, and the party continued with the remaining guests.
"My dad was a wonderful father and grandfather and deserved respect. We're not saying the company is to blame for his death, but perhaps he could have been saved," says his daughter.
"As far as we know, he was healthy. If he had been feeling unwell, he wouldn't have gone into the water."
Autopsies were conducted in Turkey and the UK. According to Nakita, they were unable to determine the cause of death, so the investigation is ongoing.
