British gangs impersonate police officers and rob in broad daylight (3 photos + 1 video)
In Birmingham, a gang posing as police officers violently robbed a man. The incident was captured on dashcam video. The footage shows one of the assailants punching the victim in the face, while another holds him by the neck. A third assailant steals his watch and bag. The robbers then escape in a black Skoda with a siren and flashing lights.
West Midlands Police said the victim's watch was stolen.
Social media reports also indicated that the victim works at a nearby money transfer office. He was carrying £60,000 when he was robbed. It was clearly a tip-off.
A source said: "This is a shocking incident. The man had no doubt that the officers in front of him were real. Incidents are common in this area, so the officers' appearance wasn't surprising."
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We are investigating a robbery that occurred at around 2pm on Monday on College Road, Washwood Heath. A car was reversing and collided with several other vehicles. The perpetrators, posing as police officers, stole a man's watch and groceries for delivery. They then fled with their blue lights and siren activated. We ask anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact us on 101, quoting crime number 20/423537/25."
