Snowmobilers chased a fox (2 photos + 1 video)
Two young men from Pennsylvania, USA, confessed to chasing a fox on snowmobiles and hitting it several times. The tormentors were filmed on January 20 on a frozen lake in the city of Lebanon.
The footage shows the 17- and 20-year-olds, whose names have not been released, racing after the helpless animal and hitting it.
According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the abuse lasted about 30 minutes.
"An investigation by state inspectors revealed that two individuals on snowmobiles had been pursuing a fox for over a half hour. During this horrific incident, the suspects on the snowmobiles ran over the fox several times," authorities said.
After both young men voluntarily surrendered to police, the Pennsylvania Game Commission issued a new statement: "Thanks to social media coverage, comments, and public outcry, the perpetrators have come forward to the authorities. They will be charged. Thank you for helping protect Pennsylvania's wildlife and resources by reporting incidents like this."
Animal welfare officials have not yet reported whether the fox survived the attack.
This happened almost a year after a Wyoming hunter hit a female wolf and dragged her into a bar. 42-year-old Cody Roberts taped the dying animal's mouth shut and tortured her for several more hours.
The hunter was fined $250 for his actions, but was not convicted. According to Wyoming law, killing wolves in the so-called "predator zone" is not a crime.
