A cyclops kitten was born in Brazil
A kitten with one eye was born in the state of Rondônia, Brazil. It has already been dubbed "Cyclops Cat" online.
The unusual animal was born with one eye in the center of its face. According to its owner, farmer Gilberto Almeida, it was the first time he had seen such a thing. He explained that the cyclops kitten's mother had given birth several times before, but none of her kittens were mutant.
In this litter, the mother carried four kittens, three of which were born without any abnormalities. Ultimately, the fourth died two days after birth due to breathing problems.
Cyclopia (or cyclocephaly) is an extremely rare congenital defect in which the fetus develops a single eye socket, located in the center of the face, instead of two. It occurs in one in 16,000 animals. Most often, those born with this mutation have a short lifespan. The anomaly is named after the one-eyed giant from ancient Greek myths.
