A heavy downpour caused part of a supermarket roof to collapse.
In the US state of New Jersey, part of a supermarket roof collapsed during heavy rain. At the time of the incident, dozens of people were inside, but everyone managed to evacuate.
According to local authorities, there were 27 people in the building. Two of them were temporarily trapped under the debris, but managed to free themselves and exit the store. Neither sustained serious injuries.
Viral videos that appeared online show shoppers and employees rushing through the store aisles while water pours from the ceiling and pieces of the structure fall. The footage shows people moving toward the exits, escaping from the debris.
Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden called the incident "another reminder of how quickly a severe storm can create dangerous and unpredictable conditions." He also thanked the rescue workers and police officers who acted in a coordinated manner, despite difficult weather conditions and flooding, to ensure that everyone in the building was safe.
