Eight football players were struck by lightning - one died

Peruvian defender Jose Hugo de la Cruz Meza died after being directly struck by lightning on the field during a football match. Seven other people were hospitalized.

The tragedy occurred on November 3 during a game between the clubs Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chokka, which took place in the Peruvian city of Huancayo.

During the match, a heavy downpour began and the referee decided to stop the game. When the players began to leave the field, lightning struck it. As a result of the incident, 39-year-old footballer Jose Hugo de la Cruz Meza died. The other injured players were taken to the hospital. They have serious burns.
