Argentine Congressman Federico Pelli suffered a broken nose while delivering humanitarian aid to a flood-affected area.
An Argentine congressman from the Freedom Advances party, led by President Javier Miley, suffered a broken nose. Need To Know reports.
The attack on prominent politician Federico Pelli occurred in the small town of La Madrid in Tucumán province on March 11. The congressman and his party colleagues brought mattresses and other essential supplies to the flood-affected city.
At the entrance to the city, several men blocked the road. The eldest of them said they would not allow Pelli into the town. A witness filmed the politician asking the stranger who he was. The man then sharply headbutted Pelli in the nose. The congressman clutched his face and sank to his knees.
The aggressive man was detained. He turned out to be political activist Marcelo Segura, who, according to local media, is associated with the provincial Interior Minister, Dario Monteros, of the left-wing Justicialist Party. Pelli was taken to the hospital with a severely broken nose. Javier Miley posted a video of the attack on his ally on his social media page.
The incident was condemned by many Argentine politicians, including Monteros. Segura was arrested. His motives are still unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
