A Malaysian pilot was arrested for drug smuggling

A Malaysia Airlines co-pilot has been arrested with a large shipment of drugs. The man was detained shortly after arriving at Jakarta Airport on a flight from Kuala Lumpur.

Indonesian authorities have released airport surveillance footage allegedly showing the Malaysian pilot transporting 26 kg of ecstasy. The video also shows officials displaying a small bottle containing, according to them, fake urine intended to manipulate urine test results. During interrogation, the pilot reportedly told investigators that another person had instructed him to deliver the ecstasy to Jakarta in exchange for 50,000 Malaysian ringgit (about $11,700). The pilot admitted to having transported drugs twice before. The pilot is currently under investigation under Indonesian drug laws.

Indonesian law carries the death penalty for drug offenses.
