In Thailand, a monk was expelled from a Buddhist temple for his addiction to alcohol.
For a year, a man bought beer almost daily at a nearby convenience store. The incident sparked widespread public outcry after CCTV photos and videos were posted on social media.
A local cleric had been buying beer daily at a nearby convenience store for a year. The cleric assumed the alcohol was intended for the temple's hired workers. However, it later emerged that the beer-loving cleric had been drinking the beer himself.
The cleric's secret addiction was captured on CCTV cameras: Phiran, as usual, came to the store and attempted to buy two bottles of beer, but the clerics refused. The footage subsequently sparked a social media scandal, leading to the cleric's expulsion from the temple in northeastern Thailand.
Police investigated and found that the offender had indeed purchased beer. However, they provided no evidence that he had consumed alcohol at the temple.
