In Colombia, a soldier was injured by a lightning strike

Lightning struck a helicopter at a military base in the Cauca department of Colombia. A soldier who was near the aircraft at the time lost consciousness and was injured.

The incident occurred at a base in the city of Popayán on Sunday afternoon, February 15. Surveillance footage captured the soldier approaching the helicopter during a thunderstorm. At that moment, lightning struck him. The soldier fell and lost consciousness.

A government statement stated that the man was immediately taken to the hospital, where he received the necessary medical attention. His life is currently out of danger. An investigation revealed that lightning struck the helicopter, but also struck the soldier who had approached too close. The aircraft's tail rotor was destroyed.
