A priest in Brazil was caught with a parishioner's fiancée
A scandal has erupted in the Brazilian city of Nova Maringa (Mato Grosso state), causing widespread public outcry. On October 13, Father Luciano Braga Simplicio of the parish of Nossa Senhora Aparecida found himself at the center of a scandal involving the fiancée of a parishioner.
According to local media, the man, suspecting infidelity, returned early from a trip and found the priest in an awkward situation at his home. Following the incident, the Diocese of Diamantino launched an internal investigation—officially formalized as canonical procedure. Pending the investigation, Father Simplicio has been suspended from ministry and is not permitted to conduct services.
The woman involved in the incident has contacted the police. Local authorities and church representatives have so far declined to comment, but the story has sparked a furor on social media and thrust the small town of Nova Maringa into the national spotlight.
