Father of three dies after jumping into the sea from a pier in Alanya
Arif Erman, 39, who was vacationing in the Alanya resort area of Antalya, ignored warning signs stating that jumping from the hotel pier was dangerous and prohibited; he took a running start and dove into water that was only about 50 centimeters deep. Erman, a married father of three, sustained severe injuries and passed away at the hospital where he had been taken.
The incident occurred yesterday around 3:00 PM at a hotel in Konaklı, in the Alanya district of Antalya. Arif Erman, who was in the area for a holiday, approached the section of the hotel pier cordoned off by safety ropes and looked out at the sea. Despite warning signs indicating that jumping from the pier was dangerous and forbidden, Erman stepped back after a moment. He then took a running start, cleared the safety barrier, and dove headfirst into the sea. Reports indicate that the water depth at the spot where Erman jumped was approximately 50 centimeters.
A lifeguard on the pier, seeing Erman jump into the shallow water, immediately entered the sea. Erman was pulled from the water in critical condition and received first aid at the scene. After being treated by a medical team and transported to the hospital, 39-year-old Arif Erman passed away despite the doctors' best efforts.
