An Indian man nearly died while exiting an elevator. The car suddenly started moving upward with the doors open.
Vatsal Panchal was descending from the ninth floor of a residential complex in Valsad, Gujarat, India, and was already planning his day, but he didn't get to work until after lunch. When the elevator stopped on the first floor, the car suddenly started moving upward, despite the doors being open. Vatsal was lucky – he suffered a minor head injury.
The elevator, which had a faulty drive, was shut down for repairs that same day. It was installed in 2016 and entered service in 2019, when the first residents moved into the residential complex.
