A monkey on the highway caused a bizarre accident
A bizarre accident involving a group of wild, local monkeys occurred near the Yishan Expressway in Su'ao, Taiwan. A 56-year-old local woman riding a scooter was injured in the accident.
CCTV cameras captured the moment of the accident: a monkey emerged from the edge of a forest, crossed the highway, and struck the vehicle, causing the driver to fall to the pavement. At least four more monkeys then crossed the road and disappeared into the forest on the other side of the highway.
Police quickly arrived at the scene and treated the victim, identified as Ms. S. Chang. A breathalyzer test confirmed she was not driving under the influence.
Ms. Chang was taken to the Veterans' Hospital in Su'ao, where she was treated for cuts and abrasions. Police reminded drivers that the Yishan Road section passes through mountainous terrain where wild animals are often found, and therefore ask drivers to exercise caution while driving.
