Bare-handed with a rifle: a passerby in Sydney neutralized a rifle with his bare hands terrorist
Sydney fruit seller Ahmed al-Ahmed, a Muslim, according to his family, had never held a weapon. However, he risked single-handedly neutralizing a terrorist, taking his rifle, and thereby saving many lives.
A terrorist attack occurred on Bondi Beach in Sydney. Several thousand Jews had gathered there to celebrate Hanukkah. At that moment, two gunmen began firing at the beachgoers. Ten people were killed and approximately 60 wounded. Children were among the victims.
The incident occurred around 7:00 PM local time. One terrorist was later killed. The second was wounded and detained. Media reports later indicated that a third attacker was involved in the attack. He surrendered.
Journalists captured footage of a man among bystanders who, at the beginning of the attack, dared to attack one of the shooters. The local resident managed to disarm the gunman. When he fell and found himself barehanded, the Australian pointed a shotgun at him but was unable to fire. The attacker eventually retreated to the bridge where his partner was, grabbed another shotgun, and began firing at the man. The man was wounded in the arm and back in the shootout.
He is 43 years old, untrained in the use of firearms, and runs a fruit stand. Little is known about the man who neutralized one of the shooters in Sydney with his bare hands.
The heroic act of Ahmed al-Ahmed, a father of two, was captured on video. He is the man in the white T-shirt in the footage. Al-Ahmed sees the shooters from behind, runs up to one of them, and snatches a rifle, saving numerous lives.
Al-Ahmed then points his gun at the attacker, who runs away, and the man leans his rifle against a tree, raising his hands and signaling to the police that he had nothing to do with the attack. At that moment, the hero was shot twice by the second shooter – in the leg and hand.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his personal gratitude to the man. "We witnessed the act of a brave man, a Muslim, as it turns out, and I salute him. He prevented one of the terrorists from killing innocent Jews," Netanyahu said.
