A Dutch tourist in Kenya caused a huge scene: he spat in a police officer's face.
In the seaside resort of Diani, near Mombasa, Dutch tourist Elwin ter Horst became the subject of a viral incident. The man was arrested after assaulting his Kenyan girlfriend and then spitting in a police officer's face.
According to local media, ter Horst was in Kenya illegally. Police announced his immediate arrest and the start of deportation proceedings—effectively a ticket back to the Netherlands without a souvenir.
The situation has sparked outrage among local residents. Beyond the outrage over the incident itself, many note that foreign tourists are too easily off the hook for their misdeeds.
"If a Kenyan had done this to a European, he would have been behind bars long ago," commented locals.
This incident has become a stark reminder of double standards and the need to uphold the law, regardless of nationality.
