In the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil, a car exploded near a shopping mall. Ecuadorian authorities have called the blast a terrorist attack, killing at least one person and injuring two.
A car exploded in the north of Ecuador's largest city, Guayaquil. The incident occurred near a hotel and a shopping mall. According to eyewitnesses, the car first caught fire and then exploded, causing panic among passersby. The blast wave damaged the mall's facade and parked cars.
The car bombing in the Ecuadorian province of Guayas, Guayaquil, was a terrorist attack, Governor Humberto Plaza said. He stated that those involved will be tried under terrorism laws.
"This is pure terrorism... We will find these people, we will search for them under every stone," Plaza said.
Interior Minister John Reimberg reported that two car bombs were found at the scene. One of them exploded, but the other did not, as it was neutralized by a specialized National Police team.
