A selection of films with the coolest alien designs (12 photos)

Many people would like for man to be not the only one in the universe. Surely there is someone else in these endless expanses. A romantic thought, but why take the risk? After all, contact with such an extraterrestrial civilization can end very badly. The film industry knows this. Let's take a look at the most memorable cinematic images of alien guests who arrived on Earth with bad intentions.

War of the Worlds: Invasion (2023)

Tripods are Martians who arrived on Earth for its treacherous capture. The creatures were invented by Herbert Wells himself, and modern directors have successfully transferred the book image to the screens.

Skyline 2 (2016)

Considering that Skyline 2 is a low-budget sci-fi film, the alien invaders in it turned out to be quite impressive. But this, alas, did not save the picture from a box office failure. With a budget of $20 million, the film grossed only $992 thousand.

Predator (2018)

In popular culture, the Predator is a very popular creature. Against the backdrop of the established image of aliens at the time of the release of the first part of the franchise (huge eyes, disproportionate skull, short figure), the antagonist looked more than impressive and broke not only the grass in the jungle, but also stereotypes. The selfless struggle of the gallant hero with a fictional race was so popular with the viewer that films about the predator have been made for more than 35 years and, it seems, will be made for at least another 20 years.

Cowboys & Aliens (2011)

In the film, the aliens fulfilled a very important mission - they were able to try on Indians and cowboys, becoming their common enemy. The creatures themselves weren’t too impressive (we’ve already seen this somewhere) and didn’t frighten the audience at all. And the viewer himself clearly came to the cinema not for the creepy aliens, but for the star cast. Starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde.

Independence Day (1996)

The fate of most illustrators working on movie concepts is to make changes to their art over and over again. But Patrick Tatopoulos, the film's production designer, was incredibly lucky. The director immediately liked his illustrations of aliens and were taken as a basis without a single edit.

Aliens: Battlefield Earth (2021)

The aliens are classic, the plot is weak, the cast is good, but the acting is not outstanding. This is what audience reviews of the film look like. If you want to watch a movie that is reminiscent of other science fiction films, then Aliens: Battlefield Earth is what you need. But, mind you, the rating on IMDB is 2.0/10. If anything happens, we warned you.

Arrival (1996)

The aliens, densely settled on Earth and having their own plans for this planet, looked almost safe in the film “Arrival”. However, the viewer still noticed something frightening about these creatures - their knees bent in the opposite direction. This physiological feature of the aliens from David Twohy's film was truly the creepiest element of the film.

A Quiet Place (2018)

A real hit of 2018, “A Quiet Place” is a picture that scares not so much with infernal alien creatures, but with the fact that every sound can lead the family of the main characters to inevitable death. This film keeps the viewer in suspense from the very beginning, which is why the aliens that appear only at the end are practically not scary anymore, but they look, to be fair, creepy.

The Thing (1984)

A wide variety of materials were used to make the creatures in “The Thing”: latex, gelatin, plexiglass, heated chewing gum, mayonnaise, jam, tomato sauce and lubricant.

Signs (2002)

Continuous criticism is the main challenge the film faced immediately after its release. The public asked too many uncomfortable questions about the motivations of aliens coming to Earth. For example, the viewer was interested in why an advanced extraterrestrial race, which could be killed by contact with moisture, arrived on a planet 70% covered with water? Images of aliens were also actively condemned. They seemed to the viewer not at all creepy and even ridiculous. But it is worth noting that most of the reviewers who watched the picture would hardly want to meet such creatures in person.

Faculty (1998)

Today the film is perceived by the viewer as a naive comedy. However, back in 1998, extraterrestrial, bloodthirsty creatures with tentacles frightened me and involuntarily made me think: what if my teacher was also one of them?

Bonus: Mars Attacks (1996)

Yes, this is a frivolous movie that did not claim this title. However, the aliens from Mars Attacks, with their faces resembling exposed human skulls, are different from all aliens depicted in cinema. It is impossible to say for sure whether these creatures frightened the adult viewer, but the children were definitely impressed by these evil alien guests.
