Activists blocked the airport exit — police with batons quickly restored order
At Bilbao Airport (Spain), a group of activists blocked an exit, preventing passengers from passing. When police attempted to push them back, a violent clash ensued, with batons used. The activists were eventually thrown to the floor, and four of them were arrested on charges of disobedience, resisting police, and assaulting officers.
Activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla (a pro-Palestinian flotilla) were attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip by sea to break the Israeli naval blockade.
Their ship was intercepted by Israeli forces in the Mediterranean Sea, the activists were detained, and then deported back to Spain via Turkey.
Upon arrival at Bilbao Airport, they staged a protest – blocking the exit, obstructing passengers, and posing for photos, which led to a clash with police.
