A UFC fighter lost consciousness after the weigh-in.
American mixed martial artist Cameron Smotherman lost consciousness immediately after weighing in ahead of his fight at UFC 324 on Saturday in Las Vegas, USA.
28-year-old Cameron Smotherman, with a record of 14 wins and seven losses, was set to face fellow American Ricky Turcios on the UFC 324 precard. He made the limit, but didn't look healthy on the scale. However, in the world of MMA, this isn't the exception, but rather the rule.
But looking out of sorts is one thing. Experience shows that fighters gain weight and become much more energetic in a matter of hours. But Cameron didn't have time to recover: after stepping off the scale, he took a few steps and collapsed face-down on the floor. Those around him were horrified; they rolled the American over and began to revive him, but it didn't help much. The athlete required serious medical intervention.
Smotherman was hospitalized, and it was hard to imagine him appearing in the octagon anytime soon. The American had been knocked out by the weight cut, so what could his opponent do to him? Fortunately, the UFC didn't tempt fate by leaving him without a fight. Theoretically, a new opponent could have been found for Turcios quickly, but the decision was made to forgo a replacement and simply cancel the fight.
