In New York, a girl pepper sprayed taxi driver for reading prayer
Uber driver Shohel Mahmood, 45, was driving passengers who were sitting in the backseat. When the intersection turned red, Mahmood slowed down and began to read a prayer in Arabic, which one of the passengers did not like.
According to the prosecutor's office, 23-year-old New York resident Jennifer Gilbough took out pepper spray and sprayed the driver's face. The spray caused Mahmood "burning, redness and pain," the supervisory agency said in a press release.
"Jennifer Gilbough unjustifiably attacked a Muslim driver who was simply doing his job. The victim is a hard-working New Yorker who should not have to face this kind of hatred because of who he is. Anyone can live and work in Manhattan," Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.
It is noted that after the incident, Mahmood called 911. The attacker was detained.
